Final: Orioles 5, Red Sox 0

If Friday's loss was an embarrassment, this one was worst.

The Sox were limited to just one and shutout for the first time since mid-April, blanked by the Baltimore Orioles, 5-0, and in the process, dropping the weekend series to the last place O's.

Journeyman Asher Woeciechowski no-hit the Sox through the first six innings before Rafael Devers opened the seventh with a double to right. But that was only hit of the afternoon.

Andrew Cashner, facing his former team in his second start for the Sox, allowed four runs over six innings to absorb the defeat.

IN-GAME OBSERVATIONS:

3:45  That seemed an unnecessary risk on the part of Betts: why try to steal, down five runs, in the ninth inning? What purpose does that serve? Had he been thrown out, that really would have looked foolish.

3:31  Heath Hembree's second pitch is driven into the CF bleachers by Jonathan Villar, further extending the O's lead.

3:01  The Red Sox at least escape being no-hit as Rafael Devers goes down after a curveball at the bottom of the zone and drills it off the wall in right field.

2:55  Small thing, given the score, but nice effort by Bradley to cut that ball off in the gap and hold Smith to a single. Bradley turns in highlight catches on a regular basis, but sometimes, it's the less-obvious plays -- like that one -- that make a difference.

2:28 Through five innings, the Red Sox are being no-hit by a guy who started the day with a 6.49 career ERA.

2:01  Cashner hangs a changeup right over the middle of the plate, and once more, Mancini knows what to do with it, hammering it to left-center with a man on. Cashner has now allowed 10 runs and four homers in less than eight innings.

1:40  Leadoff walk (to Dwight Smith Jr.) proves costly for Cashner when he allows an opposite-field double to left to Chris Davis, scoring Smith.

1:30 Not a great start for the Red Sox lineup, who have five strikeouts in six plate appearances against Asher Woeciechowski.
