And then … it was 10 straight unbeaten: For the first time in some time, New England’s favorite soccer sons are really the hottest thing going, as the Revolution’s 2-0 win over MLS newcomers FC Cincinnati marked 10 straight in the league without tasting defeat, dating back to May 8. The two goals scored has The Boys In Blue at six goals without an answer from the opposition, and New England now moves into seventh place — above the playoff line — in the Eastern Conference, tied on points, 30, with sixth-place Montreal with a game in hand on L’Impact; Montreal is ahead on the wins tiebreaker. The win was also the Revs’ third on the road this year.
Gil adds to his tally with early goal: With the Revolution taking the game to FC Cincinnati in the early goings, a goal was certainly in the cards. Teal Bunbury had a couple of close chances in the opening minutes, but it was Carles Gil, after some neat one-touch passing and movement into the box, poaching the ninth-minute opener after Gustavo Bou couldn’t get a clean touch on the ball. That was his seventh of the season, and third goal in his last seven games. The Revs had a few chances to add to the score, but in the last 15-20 minutes of the half, FCC earned itself more of a foothold in the match.
