As NFL teams are set to open up training camps this week, let's look back over the offseason to see what the Patriots' rivals have been up in the AFC, assess why they aren't or are a threat, and rank each team's shot at taking down the three-time defending champions in the AFC.
DENVER BRONCOS
2018 record, finish: 6-10
Key losses: LB Brandon Marshall, OC Matt Paradis, OLB Shaq Barrett, CB Bradley Roby, OL Billy Turner, S Darian Stewart
Key additions: HC Vic Fangio, OL coach Mike Munchak, QB Joe Flacco, OT Ju'Wuan James, DB Kareem Jackson, CB Bryce Callahan, TE Noah Fant, QB Drew Lock.
Why they're a threat: I've always been a Fangio fan — his tough love might be perfect for this group — and who doesn't love Munchak? That's a great start. I don't love Joe Flacco, but he's better than the crap they had at QB. And a change of scenery could be just the thing to spur Flacco onto a good couple of seasons. The defense is still really, really good.
Why they aren't: They have nothing at receiver beyond Emmanuel Sanders (coming off injury) and are hoping for a rookie TE (Fant) to hit big. And Munchak has to work serious magic on the offensive line. Oh, and new DC Ed Donatell hasn't been good ... ever (ask Packers fans ... 4th-and-26). Now he's 62.
