First and 10: Patriots' roster review, countdown to the regular season, and plenty of other updates taken at BSJ Headquarters (Patriots)

(Adam Richins/Boston Sports Journal)

Welcome to first and 10, a roundup of all the (mostly) Patriots-related news you need to start your Wednesday. Grab your coffee and let’s get to it.

Going to jump right into things this morning because we have a lot of great links worth discussing...

1. I went through the 90-man roster to get a sense of where things were at this point on the calendar. Broke it down by position, and included locks, bubble guys, and some potential battles for playing time. Some interesting stuff.

2. Spent some quality time late Monday with my buddy Orlando Alzugaray of Mad Dog Radio talking about the latest on Ben Watson, as well as the rest of the Patriots’ offseason.

3. Tuesday was the 100-day countdown until the regular-season opener, and Judy Battista of NFL.com looked at the top 100 questions the league faces prior to the start of the year. Lots of Patriots’ stuff in here, including how badly New England might miss Rob Gronkowski.

4. Chris Trapasso ranks the top 100 all-time value picks in the NFL draft, and Tom Brady tops the list.

5. Anthony Treash of Pro Football Focus says Chase Winovich is primed for “stunt success” with the Patriots. “(Trey) Flowers was a vital piece in New England’s stunt success in 2018,” argues Treash. “And with Flowers leaving New England to join his former defensive coordinator and now Lions head coach Matt Patricia in Detroit, Belichick had to find Flowers’ replacement — and may have found the perfect one in Winovich.”

6. Pete Prisco has one question for each team for 2019. When it comes to New England, he wants to know who will replace Flowers when it comes to the Patriots’ pass rush. “The Patriots will get pressure with their different looks and should at least get to the 30 sacks they had a year ago – even without Flowers,” says Prisco. “(Bill) Belichick, who will run the defense, has a great way of influencing the quarterback without great pass rushers.”
