First and 10: Phase 3 of OTAs starts for Patriots, Peyton and the Jets, and who's still out there

Welcome to first and 10, a roundup of all the (mostly) Patriots-related news you need to start your Monday. Grab your coffee and let's get to it.

A few quick thoughts before we jump into the week:


—Phas3 3 of OTAs starts Monday for the Patriots. Meanwhile, Thursday should be fun — it’ll be our first chance of the spring to see football players dong actual football-like things. I mean, they’ll be in T-shirts and shorts, but it’ll be as close as we get to the real deal since the Super Bowl.

—I don’t know if Peyton Manning is actually interested in taking over the Jets, but it’s awfully easy to connect the dots there. He’s buddies with Adam Gase going back to their days in Denver, Manning has always apparently been interested in coming back to the game in some form or fashion (either as a broadcaster or in a front-office role), and Manning would get a chance to shepherd a talented young quarterback in Sam Darnold. Plus, It would bring another layer of fun to Patriots-Jets and Tom Brady-Manning, and give a whole new generation of New England football a reason to dislike Peyton. Why not?

—Ndamukong Suh, Corey Liuget, Michael Crabtree and Eric Berry are all still on the market. As time goes by, I’m starting to believe less and less in my fever dream of a defensive line that includes Suh and Michael Bennett. And the weekend came and went with no new updates on Kyle Rudolph. I’m starting to buy into the idea of him being released, which would likely put him out of the running, at least as far as the Patriots are concerned.

Going to miss this guy being in this league. He was Great teammate, and even better example of how to be a pro. His ability to be involve with the community is second to none. The father he is and family man he is...everything! He made the game more fun. All this said, still my second favorite long. Love ya bubs and congrats on an amazing career!
