HEADLINES

New England, Montreal battle to scoreless draw: Any time you can take a road point in Major League Soccer, you do it, and that’s what the Revs did Saturday afternoon. Thanks to a second half where New England had a little more of the ball, and thanks to some strong defending, the Revs head back to Foxborough with their third road point as a result of a scoreless draw north of the border, and have taken four out of their last six points since sacking Brad Friedel. Montreal had 62 percent of the ball and only two shots on-target, both of which in the first half. New England had four shots on-target, three shots blocked. The point moves the Revs out of 12th place for now; they can stay in 11th if Orlando City beats FC Cincinnati Sunday.

Jones gives a burst of pace off the bench: DeJuan Jones, the No. 11 SuperDraft pick out of Michigan State University, came up aces in a 55-minute substitute performance in place of Edgar Castillo, who, outside of one moment, looked lost. Jones has now played over 455 minutes in the league, and the way he breezed past Montreal’s Zakaria Diallo and then nutmegged the ever-living hell out of him showed what he can do when he has freedom.

QUOTABLE QUOTES

“My heart was beating crazy, I thought I was going to have a heart attack for a second, but just stuck with it and kept playing for the team. I knew (Diallo) was going to slide tackle, so I wanted to keep my touch out in front of me, and just made it a foot race.”
