WHO: San Jose Earthquakes at Revolution
WHERE: Gillette Stadium
WHEN: 7:30 p.m.
TV/RADIO: NBC Sports Boston/WBZ-FM 98.5/1280 AM Portuguese
WHAT’S UP: Match Day 13 is here, and it’s the first match of the Mike Lapper Era. San Jose is the opponent, and the Revolution have had good luck against it with six results in their last six meetings. But the Quakes are surging, the Revs are struggling, and this should be a dandy.
Sweens here at Gillette... again. Two days in a row?! Nifty. Your starting lineups and benches are available, and your match notes are below.
We are underway on this gorgeous night in Foxborough. Revs are in the home navy blues and are headed toward the Banner End. San Jose gets us started, they are headed toward The Fort.
3' Luis Caicedo with an opening, and he drives it wide.
6' Nice ideas by the Revs as Bye crosses toward Bunbury in the box, but it's short. Good try.
7' Bunbury, side netting. They've come out aggressive, that's for sure.
8' First corner of the game belongs to the Revs.... and Castillo blasts the ball toward Wrentham.
11' San Jose corner.
16' Hoesen races around Farrell into the box, but Anibaba slides to his right to pop the ball away.
18' Bunbury with a shot, blocked.... but Gil's movement was key. Now a throw in.....
18' GOAL REVOLUTION, and it's Juan Agudelo who gets in the air and karate kicks it in as Lima falls asleep. Edgar Castillo with the sharp cross off Penilla's lay-off. 1-0 Revs, that was beautiful football.
24' PENALTY TO NEW ENGLAND. Brandon Bye with a deep volley to Teal Bunbury, who gets into the box before he's taken down inside the 6 by Harold Cummings. Cummings is shown a yellow card after Guido Gonzales, Jr. points to the spot. Big chance for the Revs here.... and now we're going to VAR. This is for possible Denial of a Goal Scoring Opportunity.... No red card given
29' GOAL REVOLUTION, and Cristian Penilla buries the pen. He sent Vega to the left, Penilla went right. 2-nil to The Boys In Blue.
35' San Jose's first shot of the day goes into the side netting.
36' That should have been a penalty as Gil is taken down in the penalty area.
41' Hoesen with a shot, and Matt Turner makes his first save of the night. A little too much space given for the pass.
45' Four minutes minimum stoppages.
HALF
Well... about 28 percent of the ball and two goals. Not bad.
Second Half underway. Revs get us start as they head toward The Fort.
46' Vako in, Calvillo out for San Jose to start.
50' San Jose with a drive by Vako.... way over the bar.
55' Thompson with a short go, right to Turner.
61' Wondolowski on for Cummings. Last half hour should be exciting.
62' First a block by Anibaba, and then Wondo gets a head on it and Turner stops it.
66' Buchanan on for Fagundez.
67' Thompson withdrawn, and Siad Haji, the Manchester, N.H. native, comes on.
ATTENDANCE: 20,610.
67' TURNER. Big save as he stops Hoesen's shot.
68' GOAL REVOLUTION, and it's Carles Gil's first at Gillette. He slots home on Tajon Buchanan's pass, and it's 3-0 to the Revs. I have to say that's against the run of play, with San Jose having tons of possession.
74' Big save Vega as Bunbury spins and fires. Good try by No. 10.
78' Jones on for Penilla. Second sub for the Revs.
80' Eriksson has a go. High.
82' Wondo, blocked by Anibaba.
83' Shot by Castillo after some nice football by the Revs. Just wide of the far post.
85' JFC on for Bunbury. Good shift by TB10.
86' Wondo with a cheeky backheel, doesn't get by Turner with it.
88' GOAL SAN JOSE, and it's Vako on a quick restart by Eriksson, off a layoff by Hoesen. 3-1, no clean sheet.
90' A San Jose assistant has been sent to the locker room. Huh.
90' Five minutes minimum stoppages.
90+3' Foul on Luis Caicedo out on the flank... about 20 yards from goal.... but it's cleared.
90+4' Matt Turner shown a yellow for time-wasting.
90+5' One last corner for San Jose.... Jungwith with the shot, Turner saves it, and that's it.
