Welcome to first and 10, a roundup of all the (mostly) Patriots-related news you need to start your Wednesday. Grab your coffee and let’s get to it.
With less than a month to go until the draft, there are still plenty of questions about which direction the Patriots will head. One in particular got me to thinking...
With all the talk of draft weekend priorities, is there one position you can pretty much rule out? A spot on the depth chart where Bill Belichick feels so good about what he has on the roster, you know he'll pass on whatever is available? You never say never with this team, but if I had to guess, I'd say running back. With James White, Sony Michel and Rex Burkhead on the roster (not to mention old pal Brandon Bolden set to return) and James Develin around as well, this might be the most stable position on the roster heading into draft weekend. I'd put cornerback as a relatively close second. (Which means they're going to take a running back and corner in the first two rounds...) Anyway, let me know in the comments the one position above all others you think Belichick doesn't need to worry when it comes to this year's draft.
•Pro Day highlights for Wednesday include Ball State and Washington State.
Now, on with the links...
1. Would Ndamukong Suh fit in Foxborough? The defensive tackle is still on the market, and even though Michael Bennett got a bit of a financial bump from the Patriots, New England could still use one more big body up front. At the very least, he's an intriguing prospect, especially at this time of the year.
2. Miguel has a nice breakdown of what Bennett's re-done deal means for the Patriots from a cap perspective.
3. "Not much happening" in the talks between the Patriots and Stephen Gostkowski's reps, per our buddy Mike Giardi.
4. ESPN's post-free agency power rankings has New England at No. 3. Of the Patriots, Mike Reiss writes: "Coach Bill Belichick often points out that there are no games played in March, which is a good thing, because the Patriots have absorbed more significant personnel losses than gains."
4. Daniel Rymer of Pro Football Focus takes a look at the Patriots' Cover-0 defensive scheme, which has become a key part of their arsenal.
