- Will this finally be the game where the Bruins exercise their demons against the Capitals? Entering Sunday afternoon, the Capitals have won 14 straight games against Boston — with the B’s last win against the Caps coming back on March 29, 2014.
- Tuukka Rask will once again get the call in net for Sunday’s matchup. With a win, he will become the Bruins all-time leader in wins for a goalie at 252. Elsewhere in the B’s lineup, Matt Grzelcyk will slot back in for John Moore on defense, while Joakim Nordstrom will replace Danton Heinen on the third line.
- Boston has lost five of its last six games and three in a row entering Sunday’s matchup, although the Capitals are also slumping with a record of 1-5-2 over their last eight games. While Boston’s issue has been scoring as of late, the Capitals have relinquished at least six goals in four of their last six games.
- Alex Ovechkin, who returns from a one-game suspension for skipping the NHL’s All-Star Weekend, will become the NHL’s all-time points leader among Russian-born players with a point on Sunday. He’s currently tied with Sergei Fedorov at 1,179.
- The Bruins have an all-time record of 13-4-1-1 on Super Bowl Sunday.
