Bedard's Daily Briefing 01.21.19: Patriots, Brady refuse to lose in thriller

Good morning!

A few random thoughts while I wonder when New England became Minnesota with this cold...

• Well, I don't have a whole lot left to say about the Patriots' victory over the Chiefs (I'll have a breakdown on the defense posting at 10 a.m.). I mean, I don't know what needs to be said. The Patriots and Tom Brady are just incredible.


• This was a season in which, at various points, the Patriots looked like it just wasn't going to happen for them. From Sony Michel's early injury and Julian Edelman's suspension, to the struggles of Brady and Rob Gronkowski and some really iffy defense for a while, the Patriots finally looked mortal as they appeared disinterested for much of the season.


• Then the postseason started and not only have they won, but they look like a better team than the one that faced the Eagles a year ago.


• We used to know we could ignore the first four games. Now, apparently, we can ignore most of the first 16 games.


• Whatever. They're going, and the rest of the country is just going to deal with New England all up in their grill for another two weeks. And probably another five years.


• As for the game, I don't know how you guys survived. I don't even have a rooting interest and I was nervous midway through the third quarter. And then from that point on, the game swung on literally every play. If I was a Patriots fan, I would have been vomiting.


• I'm interested, and maybe we'll do a post on it: looking back, what was your most ridiculous moment of the game that now you look back at and laugh? Leave your game-watching stories in the comments.


• Anyways, time to get some sleep. Enjoy basking in the warm glow of everyone else's misery.


• Oh, and Tom Brady was a stone-cold assassin on the final two drives.
