As the Patriots regular season comes to an end, it's time to start looking ahead to the offseason and how the franchise plans to attack some key contract questions. My 2019 salary cap preview will be broken into two parts: The first will basically break down the Patriots cap commitment and cap space numbers. The second part (coming soon) will lay out some possible options for the current players on the roster.
BACKGROUND:
Since this two-part preview will be focused on the Patriots 2019 cap space number, I'll explain how that number is calculated. A team's cap space number is the difference between its adjusted cap number and its cap commitments. A team's adjusted cap number consists of three numbers:

- A $62,500 credit for Rex Burkhead not being active for 10 games this year.
- A $31,250 credit for Adrian Clayborn not being active for all 16 games.
- A $25,000 credit for Patrick Chung not being active for all 16 games.
