- A large contingent of Boston’s walking (or skating?) wounded are set to return to the lineup on Thursday, with Zdeno Chara (MCL), Jake DeBrusk (concussion) and Kevan Miller (throat) all expected to play against the Devils. Chara, who has missed the last 19 games, will skate on Boston’s top D pairing with Matt Grzelcyk, while Miller will form the B’s third pairing with John Moore. Jake DeBrusk will slot back in with David Krejci on the second line, while the Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak line remains intact.
- While most of Boston’s roster is healthy, Charlie McAvoy will miss the game due to a minor lower-body injury. “Blocked a shot last week, so there’s a little bit of a lingering effect from that,” Bruce Cassidy said of McAvoy. “He shouldn’t be too long. He’s out tonight. Day to day. Saturday, I guess we’ll see then.”
- Jaroslav Halak will get the call in net tonight for Boston. At home this season, Halak is 8-0-0 with a 1.74 goals-against average and a .945 save percentage.
- A playoff team just a year ago, the Devils have fallen on hard times as of late — with the club currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with 31 points on the year.
- Already 28th in the league in goals allowed per game (3.51), the Devils will also be without their top weapon up front — as Taylor Hall will miss the game due to a lower-body injury. The reigning Hart Trophy winner has 37 points in 33 games this season.
