Kyrie Irving scored the final 12 points of the game for the Celtics and 38 on the night, helping propel the visitors to their seventh straight win, a 130-125 victory an overtime thriller at Capitol One Arena.
Boston was without Al Horford (knee), Gordon Hayward (illness) and Jaylen Brown (illness) in the matchup but the undermanned C's fought back from a 10-point first half deficit with a 38-22 third quarter to re-take control. Marcus Morris had 29 points and 9 rebounds while Marcus Smart did a little bit of everything with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals but it was Irving who took the game over in the closing minutes of overtime after missing a potential game-winner in regulation.
The All-Star hit two consecutive 3s in the final minute and scored 10 points in the final 67 seconds of the win, outscoring the Wizards 10-4 down the stretch to help Boston escape with the win.
The Celtics will go for eight straight back in the friendly confines of the TD Garden against the Hawks on Friday night.
First Half Notes
- Wizards clearly making it a priority early to take away the 3-point shot for Boston. C's did not get many good looks all half long and misfired on the majority of them (4-of-20 from downtown)
- Kyrie Irving with some nice drives to the rim in the first half but he's been having to work hard to get there with Wizards engaged on the defensive end. He finished 5-of-12 in the half with team-high 13 points.
- Too much shooting and not enough distribution from Marcus Smart in the first half. He took six shots, matching his season-average.
- C's are having a tough time matching up in transition against the wings all over the Wizards lineup. They've been beaten down the court while facing an athleticism disadvantage at almost every position. Tough night to be down Jaylen Brown and Gordon Hayward on that front.
- A couple blocks by Robert Williams in a few minutes of action, including one on a fadeaway by Bradley Beal. Team might be better off paying him more in the second half given his ability to contest smaller players on perimeter.
- Pretty ugly lack of ball movement in the first half from both units. Only six assists thus far on 19 made field goals. Boston's season low for a game is 16.
- Jeff Green (12 points, 5 rebounds) was the best player on the floor for the Wizards for most of the first half.
- C's having Jayson Tatum spending some time on John Wall defensively given their lack of wings to cover shooters.
- First free throw attempt of the game for Boston came midway through the second quarter. They finished with just four in half. If they don't step up there or with their shooting (38 percent), it's going to be tough to get back into this one.

- Kyrie Irving will be back in the fold for the Celtics after missing Monday's win to rest a sore AC joint in his right shoulder. Al Horford, Guerschon Yabusele, and Al Horford have all been ruled out, while Aron Baynes will return and get the start while being on a minutes count. For more injury analysis, click here. Jaylen Brown was a last-minute scratch due to illness.
- John Wall is expected to play after missing Monday's game with a sore heel. Otto Porter Jr. is questionable due to a bruised knee.
- The Wizards are letting opponents shoot 37 percent from 3-point range, which ranks 29th in the NBA.
- Boston has the best offense and third-best defense in the league over the course of their six-game winning streak.
- Look for Boston to be very aggressive on the offensive glass tonight against the Wizards small ball lineups. They are in the bottom-five in the league in defensive rebounding rate.
