- Boston is in desperate need of a spark following a 1-4-1 skid, but the B’s will be without their second leading goal scorer in Jake DeBrusk for at least the next two games due to injury, per Bruce Cassidy.
- With DeBrusk out of the equation, Boston’s lines have once again been put in a blender for Saturday’s tilt with Toronto. Cassidy opted to go heavy up front with David Krejci centering David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand, while Colby Cave will center a “second line” with Danton Heinen and David Backes.
- After getting picked up off the waiver wire on Thursday, Gemel Smith is set to make his debut with the Bruins on Saturday, with the speedy, bottom-six forward expect to skate with Sean Kuraly and Chris Wagner on the fourth line. “I think I can play up and down through the lineup,” Smith said. “I can bring energy and I’ve got skill. I can score, make plays, so I just want to be a gritty, two-way kind of player that is responsible and can provide offense.”
- Jaroslav Halak will get the start in net tonight against Toronto. In his career against Toronto, Halak is 9-4-4 with a .913 save percentage.
- With Auston Matthews and William Nylander back in the fold, the red-hot Maple Leafs boast one of the top offenses in the entire NHL. Toronto will look to extend its point streak to seven games tonight against the Bruins.
- Mitch Marner has recorded 12 assists during this point streak for Toronto, while Matthews has lit the lamp five times and added three assists since returning from a shoulder injury that held him out of action for close to a month.
