LIVE COVERAGE

10:50: Ryan Donato wins it. Good lord someone please gif that. Bruins win, 2-1.

10:45: On to the shootout.

10:43: Rask stops Barzal on a breakaway. Delete the tweets, people.

10:38: Islanders crash the net. A glove goes flying. A light goes off. And the refs rule no goal.

10:34: On to overtime.

10:24: In need of a final push, we have Marchand-Krejci-Pastrnak out on the ice.

10:17: Great shift by the Kuraly line. B's generating plenty of chances but can't cash in.

10:11: Bruins are getting knocked around by this big Islanders club. Jake DeBrusk has to gather himself on the ice after taking a big hit in the corner.

10:09: David Krejci back for the B's.

10:04: No David Krejci to start the third period. Not great.

9:48: David Krejci took a big hit from Thomas Hickey in the closing seconds of the period. He headed right to the room ahead of his teammates.

9:46: End second: Bruins and Islanders are tied going into the final stanza. SOG in favor of the B's, 25-16.

9:27: Pastrnak to Marchand. 1-1 game off of Marchand's first goal since Nov. 11.

9:25: David Backes gets hit in the face yet again. B's heading to the power play while Leddy sits for a high stick.

9:20: B's kill the penalty, then Boston rings one off the post.

9:16: B's lines have been in a blender all night. Now, Acciari heads to the box.

9:12: Nice play by Moore to carry the puck into the slot and wrist one at Lehner. SOG in favor of the B's, 18-9.

9:04: Second period is underway.

8:47: End first: 1-0 Islanders. SOG in favor of Boston, 13-7, but didn't feel like it. Pretty sluggish showing.

8:30: Anders Lee pots one past Rask. 1-0 Islanders. Rask needed to squeeze that puck, Krug didn't do him any favors with a poor clear attempt.

8:25: Scary stuff here. Shades of Gregory Campbell.

PREGAME NOTES

  • The shorthanded Bruins will look to continue its efforts of staying afloat on Thursday, with the Black and Gold collecting points in five of its last six games. Boston has more than held its own on home ice, posting an 8-2 record at TD Garden this season.

  • Reminder that tonight’s game will be pushed back to an 8:08 start time, with the jersey retirement ceremony for Rick Middleton set to get underway at 6:30 p.m. Middleton is the 11th player to have his sweater immortalized by the B’s — joining Lionel Hitchman (#3, 1934), Dit Clapper (#5, 1947), Eddie Shore (#2, 1949), Milt Schmidt (#15, 1957), Bobby Orr (#4, 1979), Johnny Bucyk (#9, 1980), Phil Esposito (#7, 1987), Ray Bourque (#77, 2001), Terry O'Reilly (#24, 2002) and Cam Neely (#8, 2004).

  • Ryan Donato will slot back into the lineup tonight after a 10-game stint down in Providence, while a slumping Anders Bjork will head down to the Baby B’s in order to get his game back on track.

  • For more on Donato, click here.

  • Brandon Carlo might be back in the lineup on Saturday against Detroit, while Charlie McAvoy took part in practice while donning a red, non-contact sweater.

  • “He’s progressing,” Bruce Cassidy said of McAvoy. “He’s out with Kim (Brandvold) a little bit early doing some work and graduated to our practice, so hopefully he's back with us tomorrow. It’s a day by day process for him and he’s doing better. So we obviously miss him, it’d be nice to get him back when that day comes.”

  • The Islanders have won three of their last four games, although the club has not cashed in on their last 11 attempts on the power play. Even without John Tavares, the Islanders still have a dynamic man in the middle in Mathew Barzal, who has tallied 20 points in his last 23 games.
