- The Black and Gold will have at least one defenseman back in the fold tonight, with John Moore expected to start after missing the past three games with a lower-body injury. Boston’s D corps will feature a pair of rookies on a single pairing in Jeremy Lauzon and Connor Clifton, but Bruce Cassidy was quick to note that both skaters will likely shuffle with numerous pairings on Friday.
- Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson will center Boston’s top line alongside Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak, while Colby Cave will make his season debut and center the third line alongside Noel Acciari and Joakim Nordstrom.
- After having a few critical words for him following Wednesday’s loss against Detroit, Bruce Cassidy said that Anders Bjork will be the scratched forward for tonight’s game. He previously had earned top-six reps following Patrice Bergeron’s injury.
- While Moore is set to get back into the lineup, Charlie McAvoy, Brandon Carlo and Urho Vaakanainen are still progressing but not quite ready to return — with the trio skating ahead of the team’s morning skate. Cassidy noted that all three will not play this weekend, but there’s a possibility that Carlo is back in the fold for Monday’s road matchup against Toronto.
- While inconsistent goaltending has buried the Penguins early this season, Pittsburgh still has plenty of big guns up front, with Phil Kessel and Evgeni Malkin in the midst of six and five-game point streaks, respectively.
- With Matt Murray on injured reserve, the Penguins will turn to Tristan Jarry in net, with the 23-year-old netminder set to make his season debut on Friday. Last year, Jarry posted a 14-6-2 record with a .908 save percentage in 26 games.
