PREGAME NOTES

  • Kevan Miller is expected to make his return to the Black and Gold after missing the last 13 games due to a fractured hand. However, Jakub Zboril is also expected to dress and take part in warmups in case Miller doesn’t get the green light. While Cassidy plans on having Miller out on the ice, the veteran blue liner is listed officially as a “game-time decision”.

  • While Cassidy expects Miller (if healthy) to switch pairings throughout the night between Matt Grzelcyk and Steven Kampfer, no other lineup changes are expected, with David Krejci and Joakim Nordstrom earning reps as top-six pivots.

  • After putting together his best start of the season on Saturday against Dallas, Tuukka Rask will get the start in net Wednesday against Detroit. In 21 career games against the Red Wings, Rask is 13-5-2 with a .906 save percentage.

  • While the Red Wings opened the season with a 1-7-2 start, they have now won eight of their last 10 games and are looking to gain ground in a competitive Atlantic Division.

  • "They've won close games, maybe earlier in the year they weren't able to finish them off or come back,” Cassidy said of Detroit. “Whatever the case may be or whatever is required to stay in those games and win them. Goaltending, obviously (Jimmy) Howard has played well. Timely scoring. Younger guys coming around. It's inevitable when you have a lot of them they start to get comfortable. You put all of those three or four things together and you have a good hockey team."
