Hot Stove Lunch: Rookie of the Year winners revealed Monday night

It's award week this week with the four major awards voted on by the Baseball Writers Association of America, beginning tonight with the announcement of the American League and National League Rookies of the Year.

The consensus is that Ronald Acuna Jr. will be the winner in the N.L., with a close vote expected in the American League, between the Angels' Shohei Ohtani and the Yankees' Miguel Andujar.

Later in the week, the Red Sox will figure prominently with two awards, with Alex Cora named as a finalist for American League Manager of the Year (revealed Tuesday night) and Mookie Betts the clear front-runner for the A.L. MVP, set to be unveiled Thursday night.

Remember, the voting takes place after the regular season and does not include the postseason. So, while Cora winning the World Series adds to his first-year legacy, that won't be a factor in the voting. It should be a close vote with both Oakland's Bob Melvin and Tampa Bay's Kevin Cash the other two finalists. That said, I would expect that Cora will win, for having won 108 games -- a franchise record -- in is first year managing at every level.

As for Betts, it seems a near-certainty that he'll win the AL MVP honors, beating out Mike Trout and Jose Ramirez.

AL EAST

The Yankees need pitching help, and have been linked most often to Patrick Corbin. But there's another lefty free agent who might be on their radar.

What, precisely, are the Baltimore Orioles waiting for? It's mid-November and the Orioles lack A) a president of baseball operations, B) a general manager and, C) a manager.

When the offseason began, there were GM openings in New York and San Francisco and dugout vacancies in Toronto, Minnesota, Anaheim, and Cincinnati. They've all been filled, with coaching staffs assembled and front offices staffed.

The Orioles, meanwhile, are proceeding at their usual glacial place and haven't hired anyone to fill any of their posts.

It's sad to see what's become of this once great franchise.
