Rookie running back Sony Michel was back on the practice field Saturday morning, sparking speculation he might be able to go sooner rather than later.
Michel suffered a knee injury last Sunday in Chicago against the Bears and missed all of the practices earlier in the week, but he was present for the start of Saturday’s session.
In addition to Michel, Rob Gronkowski and Marcus Cannon were both in attendance for the workout, that was held in the field house. However, cornerback Eric Rowe and offensive lineman Brian Schwenke were not there. The final attendance report of the week is set to be released Saturday at approximately 4 p.m.
One good sign for Gronkowski -- he spoke with the media after practice, which is usually an indicator the player will be able to go come game time. The tight end said he expects to travel this weekend.
“Yeah,” Gronkowski said. “I expect to, yes ... unless they tell me no.
“I feel good,” Gronkowski said. “Just doing everything that I need to do. Whatever the training staff — whatever I can do out on the field. Whatever coaches ask me to do, just taking it day by day one step at a time to get back on the field.”
Gronkowski, a native of upstate New York, also sounds exceptionally fired up about the chance to play in front of his family and friends.
“It's always special to go up there,” he said. “This is my seventh or eighth time going up there and playing in Buffalo. It’s always an honor. It's always special to go up where you grew up watching them and everything. It's cool. The atmosphere – you can’t ask for a better football atmosphere either, especially coming this Monday night. It's going to be rocking there. It's going to be popping and it's going to be one of the most electric atmospheres you can get in football, I would say.”
