9:37: Bruins take a 3-1 lead just 20 seconds into the third period. Bergeron tips a Pastrnak shot past Anderson for Boston's second goal in 1:11. B's power play finally coming around.
9:18: Bruins announce that Urho Vaakanainen will miss the rest of tonight's game due a concussion. He took an elbow from Borowiecki that wasn't called in the first period.
9:17: END SECOND: Krejci's PPG gives Boston a 2-1 lead. That goal from Krejci was Boston's first power-play goal of the road trip. Bruins were 0-for-10 going into the game.
9:16: David Krejci scores just four seconds into the 5-on-3. 2-1 Bruins.
9:12: Now 5-on-3 for 1:21. Too many men for Ottawa.
9:11: Boston going on the power after Carlo draws a hook. 1:33 left in the second.
9:09: Chatbot ties it with a shot from the top. Brutal.
9:07: Now Chara is called for a cross-check. Looks like Stone slashed Chara after the hit, but no call.
9:06: Scary hit on Grzelcyk from Zack Smith, and Marchand drops the gloves with him. Both done for the rest of the second period.
8:58: Ottawa outshooting Boston, 8-1, with just over five minutes to go in the second. Yuck.
8:45: Great play from Nordstrom on the PK, as he blocks a shot and gets a great 2-on-1 rush with Wagner, who nearly buries his attempt past Anderson. Acciari penalty over.
8:42: B's finally get some momentum and Acciari is called for a ... trip? Yeeesh. B's back on the PK.
8:38: Not the best start for Boston - Ottawa with over a minute of zone time to open the period, including a successful line change in the middle of the extended possession.
8:35: Second period underway.
8:21: Steve Kampfer - a team-high 88.89 CF% — albeit in limited time as a bottom-pairing D (3:40 TOI in EV)
8:19: Boston with six scoring chances in the opening period. Senators with seven, even though Boston held possession for most of the stanza.
8:16: END FIRST: Bruins lead the Sens, 1-0. Good response from Boston, even if they were a bit too careless with the puck after Ottawa's first power play. Good stuff from the top-six forwards, looks like Heinen is really settling in with Krejci and DeBrusk.
8:15: Rask holds off Ryan short side. B's outshooting the Sens, 15-10.
8:05: BRUINS GOAL: Second line with a strong forecheck leads to a turnover, as Heinen feeds Pastrnak for his ninth goal of the season. 1-0 Boston.
7:53: Also, Vaakanainen is back out on the ice.
7:52: Plenty of chances for the Sens on their first power play. Brandon Carlo bails out Rask by swiping the puck out of danger before it sneaks into the net.
7:46: Bruins get a great chance, but Bergeron can't cash in in the slot. Vaakanainen also takes a forearm to the face. He's getting repairs.
7:41: Nordstrom forces a turnover in Ottawa's zone and the third line gets a solid scoring chance out of it.
7:40: DeBrusk off the pipe. Good start for the second line.

PREGAME NOTES:
- The Bruins will again be shorthanded in this one, with Charlie McAvoy (undisclosed), Kevan Miller (hand) and David Backes (undisclosed) all still in Boston undergoing evaluations. Bruce Cassidy didn’t offer any additional updates on the three injured skaters, but did note Miller “is probably going to (miss) a little bit" after blocking a shot with his hand against the Oilers Thursday. With those three out, Steven Kampfer and Urho Vaakanainen will slot in on the blue line once again, while Joakim Nordstrom will center the third line of Chris Wagner and Anders Bjork in Backes’ absence.
- Torey Krug was spotted at Bruins’ morning skate Tuesday, with the blueliner joining his team after missing the first couple of weeks of the regular season due to an ankle injury. While he’s made some strides, Cassidy noted Krug will not be in the lineup this week, even as Boston’s power play continues to slump (0-for-10 over last three games). “He’s not ready yet,” Cassidy said of Krug. “Won’t play this week, but now he’s closer. ... He’s back in the mix. He’s trending on schedule.”
- After sitting the last couple of games, Tuukka Rask will get the start in net. In his career against the Senators, Rask is 12-7-4 with a .924 save percentage.
- Tabbed as a rebuilding bunch going into the new year, the Senators have impressed out of the gate, with Ottawa looking for its fourth straight win. Craig Anderson will get the start in net for the Sens, with the goalie posting a 3-0-0 record and a .951 save percentage in his last three outings.
- Center Chris Tierney has done plenty of damage on a line with Mark Stone and Ryan Dzingel, posting a seven-game point streak to open the year with nine points (two goals, seven assists).
