NFL Power Rankings, Week 7: Patriots, Chargers and Ravens all make big strides taken at BSJ Headquarters (Patriots)

(Adam Richins/Boston Sports Journal)

This week’s big board has a lot to think about — chock full of quality stats. The Patriots, Chargers, Ravens and Redskins are all on the rise, while the Jaguars, Bears and Panthers are among those taking a tumble. We’ve also got plenty of discord at the bottom of the list, including bad times with the Bills, Jets, and Raiders. Read on to see where your team ended up.

1. Rams (6-0 — last week, No. 1): Another narrow win for Los Angeles, this time against the Broncos. Todd Gurley became the Rams’ first 200-yard rusher since 2001. This week: at Niners.

2. Patriots (4-2 — last week, No. 4): Sunday night marked the fifth time in team history they didn’t punt in a game, and the sixth time in team history they didn’t have a penalty (not counting calls declined or offset) in a game. This week: at Bears.

3. Saints (4-1 — last week, No. 5): New Orleans is averaging 36 points per game, which would be the highest single-season average for any team since the 2013 Broncos. This week: at Ravens.

4. Chiefs (5-1 — last week, No. 2): If you’re starting to think about the race for home-field between New England and Kansas City, it’s worth noting that of the 10 games they have left on their schedule, the Chiefs have the fourth-easiest remaining strength of schedule, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index. This week: vs. Bengals.

5. Vikings (3-2-1 — last week, No. 6): Through six games, Adam Thielen leads the NFL with 58 receptions and 712 yards. He is on pace to reach 155 catches and 1,899 yards over a full season, which would break Marvin Harrison’s mark for receptions (143) in a year. Can’t dance, though. This week: at Jets.
