After a regular season in which he will likely earn himself American League Most Valuable Player honors, Mookie Betts hasn't made much of an impact in the Red Sox' postseason.
He collected just three hits -- two of them singles -- in the four-game ALDS series win over the Yankees. And in the Red Sox' 7-2 loss to Houston Saturday night in Game 1 of the ALCS, he singled in the first inning, then didn't reach base again.
The same Betts who led all of Major League Baseball in slugging and was second in the big leagues in extra-base hits, has one double and no homers so far.
Betts had his chances Saturday night. He came up with bases loaded and one out as Justin Verlander was struggling to throw strikes. But Betts hit a weak tapped to third, resulting in a force play at home as he reached on a fielder's choice.
"I was looking for a good pitch to hit and I got it. I just didn't do anything with it,'' confessed Betts. "It's a situation where I didn't get the job done. It was a pitch right down the middle; can't miss that pitch, especially in a situation like that.''
