BSJ Daily Briefing: Sox close out Yanks, move on to ALCS vs. Houston, C's & Rozier talk extension

Good morning! 

A few random thoughts while I wonder what music Aaron Judge was playing last night as he left Yankee Stadium.

• Let's check in on Gotham, shall we?

• Everyone watched the game, so I'm not sure how much else needs to be said. Alex Cora's bench guys (and J.D. Martinez) staked the team to a 4-0 deficit as Aaron Boone again went with his starter, who didn't have it, too long.


• Then Cora showed Booney how it's done by lifting a terrific Rick Porcello (thought he could go all night) after 65 pitches when he was having a trouble getting through a third turn of the lineup.


• Matt Barnes, Ryan Brasier and Big Dog Chris Sale were each perfect in their inning of work.


• Craig Kimbrel was not, but Eduardo Nunez, who went from bum to Brooks Robinson at third base in this game, made a stellar play and Steve Pearce stretched out for the final out.


• .... while all of New England was hiding under their blankets.


• I can't believe Gary Sanchez missed that meat fastball on the final pitch of his at-bat. He was literally a millimeter from winning the game.

• Giancarlo Stanton needs a complete revamp of his stance and plate approach this offseason. This isn't 1986 and he's not Marty Barrett. You can't hit with that closed a stance anymore. He needs both eyes on the ball.


• CC Sabathia ... still a crybaby. I thought Hernandez was ok, a little tight in the lower zone, but he was that way for both teams.

• Elsewhere ... B-Robb has a report that the Celtics are talking extension with Terry Rozier. Interesting. Wonder if that would make Marcus Smart trade bait at some point.


• I posted my review of the Patriots' win over the Colts, and the three big areas they're having issues at the moment.


• No, I wasn't on Felger & Mazz yesterday. Was bumped for Sox talk, and many cycle discussions, apparently.
