FOXBOROUGH — It took about 12 seconds to fully realize Julian Edelman had snapped back into game mode — the time it took for him to race the length of the field out of the tunnel during pregame introductions.
The wide receiver, who hadn’t played in a meaningful football game in roughly 20 months — since Super Bowl LI — was back in action Thursday night against the Colts. That full-tilt sprint from one end of the stadium to the other, his pregame calling card, was something he had really missed.
“I mean, that’s something that gets me fired up,” he said. “You get to share it with the people that come out and support you, get them riled up.
“I remember when I tore my ACL and I was sitting back and during the rehab, you’re just sitting there and can’t wait to run out of that tunnel.”
The energy generated from Edelman’s sprint carried over to the game, a contest where he caught the first pass of the night from quarterback Tom Brady and ended up with seven catches on nine targets for 57 yards.
