The first reports on Josh Gordon’s performance in Sunday’s win over the Dolphins are in, and they sound relatively positive.
In a conference call with the media on Monday morning, Bill Belichick echoed many of the sentiments he spoke about last month after Gordon was acquired.
“Josh has worked hard, he’s a smart kid and he’s got quite a bit of experience,” Belichick said of the 27-year-old. “He’s, obviously, played in a lot of different systems with different coordinators and so forth. So, I think one way or the other, he’s probably experienced things that we’re doing in one of those systems that he’s been involved in. So, he’s been able to pick things up quickly and has experience doing different things, so it was good to get him out there. We’ll just see how it goes, take it week-to-week here.”
Gordon played 18 snaps and caught a pair of passes — one 19 yards and one 13 yards — in the win over the Dolphins. Speaking on WEEI Monday morning, Tom Brady said a lot of the same things, but adding that he could see Gordon’s confidence when he was on the field Sunday afternoon.
“He’s been really working hard, trying to get things right, and I don’t feel I’ve had to worry about where he was lining up or what route he was running,” said the quarterback. “He was super confident. I could tell in his eyes, he knew what he was doing. He’s been great since he came in, so hopefully we can keep it going and build on it.”
Brady also noted the fact the receiver is next to him in the locker room helps when it comes to establishing a connection.
“We get along well, and he sits right next to me, so it’s just a nice rapport to have,” Brady added. “I try to get along with everybody. I think that’s really important for any teammate.”
