The Red Sox snapped a pesky three-game losing streak and ended the season on a high note, bashing the New York Yankees 10-2 for their record-setting 108th win of the regular season. The win also gave them the season series over the Yankees, 10-9.
The Sox got home runs from J.D. Martinez (No. 43, most ever by a first-year Red Sox player) and Xander Bogaerts, accounting for half of their runs on two swings. Brock Holt and Eduardo Nunez each contributed two hits.
The Yankees were sloppy with three errors committed in the first two innings, leading to four unearned runs.
The Sox trotted out seven pitchers in relief of Rick Porcello, who had an abbreviated start of just two innings.
IN-GAME OBSERVATIONS:
4:57 Much better appearance today by Eduardo Rodriguez, who faces three hitters and retires all -- the last two by strikeout. Got Brett Gardner swinging through a changeup and caught Aaron Judge looking at a cutter.
4:46 Three-run homer into the home bullpen for J.D. Martinez, giving him 43 homers, the most by a Red Sox player in his first year with the team. Eclipses Dick Stuart, who hit 42 in his first season.
4:27 Luke Voit, what a half-season he's had. Fourteenth homer of the year, 13 with the Yankees since the non-waiver deadline. Homer given up by lefty Bobby Poyner, who allows his third homer in the last six appearances. That won't help his longshot post-season roster bid.
3:55 Two-run homer into the center field batter's eye for Xander Bogaerts for No. 23. It's 7-0 Sox and the rout is on.
3:47 The Red Sox kicked the ball around a bit in the first two games, but today, it's the Yankees turn to be sloppy. Brett Gardner drops a ball in foul territory near the left field stands and the Yanks are charged with their third error in the first two innings.
3:24 Scary moment as Eduardo Nunez runs into Yankee starter Luis Cessa at first, trips over the bag and goes down in a heap. Staying in the game, but, man, Nunez seems like a magnet for these kind of things.

WHAT'S UP: The Red Sox head into the last game of the regular season attempting to avoid doing something they haven't done all year -- losing their fourth straight game. They're the only team in baseball to not have a losing streak longer than three games. Twice before the Sox have gone an entire regular season without losing as many as four in a row -- in 1903 and again in 2013 -- and both times won the World Series that year...Regardless of today's outcome, the Red Sox will finish with the best record in all of MLB for the fifth time...The Sox have homered 17 times in their last nine games and go into today with 206, the eighth most in franchise history. They hit only 168 last season, last in the American League...Mookie Betts goes into today leading the A.L. batting race by 17 points, .346 to .329 (teammate J.D. Martinez) and is poised to become the first Red Sox batting champ since Bill Mueller in 2003, who hit .326 that year. Betts will also lead the majors in batting average; the last Red Sox player to do that was Wade Boggs, who hit .366 in 1988...Betts would become the first major leaguer to win a batting title for either league in a season in which he also hit 30 homers and stole 30 bases and could become the first American League player to lead the majors in both average and extra-base hits since Mickey Mantle in 1956. Betts goes into today with one more extra-base hit than both Houston's Alex Bregman and Colorado's Trevor Story....Andrew Benintendi comes into the finale with nine hits in his last four starts...Rick Porcello goes into his final start already leading the Red Sox in wins (17), ranking him fourth in the American League in that category...The Sox have won 12 of his last 17 starts and 14 of his last 21. He begins the day needing one more strikeout to tie his career high of 189 in 2016. Today will mark the fourth start of the season against the Yankees, against whom he is 2-0 with a 2.53 ERA...Among Yankee hitters, Giancarlo Stanton (3-for-8, five RBI) has hit him best, with Brett Gardner (.291, two homers and two RBI) also having some success...The Yankees will go with Luis Cessa, who doesn't have much history against the Sox. Andrew Benintendi (3-for-4, one RBI) has done the best against him with Betts going 3-for-7.
STARTING PITCHERS: RHP Rick Porcello (17-7, 4.33) vs. RHP Luis Cessa (1-3, 4.67)
