JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Things were starting to turn for the Patriots. New England had scored 10 straight points, cutting the Jacksonville lead from 21 to 11 points at the start of the fourth quarter. The “DUUUVAL” chants that rang out around TIAA Bank Field had quieted, and you could start to sense a momentum shift for New England.
On second-and-9, Jags’ quarterback Blake Bortles dropped back, set up in the pocket, and looked about 10 yards downfield. That’s where tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins had stopped to sit down in the zone. Bortles fired away.
But cornerback Jonathan Jones stepped in and tipped the ball into the air, knocking it out of Seferian-Jenkins’ grasp. Linebacker Kyle Van Noy was the guy on the spot, leaping to come away with the grab and giving the Patriots the ball on the Jacksonville 25-yard line.
