LIVE COVERAGE FROM TODAY'S GAME

3:40: Shootout...

Heinen - Backhand, and a goal. (1-0 B's)
Andre Burakovsky - McIntyre stick save
Krejci - Pad save
Christian Djoos - Wide
Lauko - Deflected aside
Jakub Vrana - Save after some stick work in front, and that's it. The B's win.

3:38: I guess the shootout is the B's thing this preseason. Two games (in two countries, too), two shootouts.

3:37: Fitzgerald wins a footrace out of the box, but can't quite handle the puck cleanly. Vanacek clears. Last minute of OT...

3:35: Bad change, and the Bruins are called for too many men. Caps are two men up, but the B's clear off a victory on the draw.

3:33: After a Jakub Vrana shot goes wide of McIntyre, Daniel Winnik comes up ice and shoots off Vanacek's mask.

3:31: McIntyre makes a save, Mark McNeill blocks a shot ... and Ryan Fitzgerald is called for a trip along the left wall. Power play with 3:12 left.

3:29: Krejci, Heinen, and Andersson start the extra period for the B's.

3:26: Saves at both ends in the final minute, but we'll have bonus preseason hockey! Shots were 8-6 B's in the third period.

3:25: One minute to play in regulation.

3:23: Traffic in front of the net, Senyshyn can't get the rebound home.

3:21: Chandler Stephenson takes the puck away from Chara. His shot sails high. Good look for the Caps shorthanded.

3:18: We've got some "Let's Go Bruins" chanting here, and it leads to a power play with 3:59 left. (Well, that's probably not why.) Lauko draws a penalty. Garrett Pilon to the box.

3:16: McIntyre goes across the crease to stop Connolly's one-timer. He's up to five saves in the period, a couple of which have been on strong chances.

3:13: McIntyre gets a shoulder on Juuso Ikonen's shot from the right circle, then Krejci got tripped up as he tried to break the other way. The referees in the stands wanted a call, but they won't get one.

Stoppage with 6:24 left in the third. Could we be on our way to more preseason overtime?

3:08: Still 1-1 with 9:39 left in regulation. Washington has three of the five shots in this third period.

3:03: B's are 0-for-3 on the power play. Pinho is out of the box and shoots to create a rebound and a wraparound chance, but McIntyre makes the save.

3:01: Andersson is taken down in front of the net, nearly leading to a good chance on net for the Caps. Brian Pinho goes to the box for a trip, and the B's will look to take the lead back.

2:59: Zdeno Chara takes the puck up ice and Axel Andersson's shot whistles high.

2:56: The third period is underway.

2:48: How about some more stats? Jeremy Lauzon leads the B's with three shots on goal from the blue line, Anton Blidh has five hits, and Marcel Noebels has three takeaways. Blidh also has two shots and looks strong on the second line with Mark McNeill, who had another faceoff win in the second period to up his game total to five.

2:38: We're tied at 1-1 through 40 minutes at the Garden, but the Bruins have been the superior team overall in this one. Shots 25-11 B's, 11-4 in the second.

2:34: Some tic-tac-toe passing finds its way to Brett Connolly, and he beats McIntyre high to the glove side, crossbar and in. He was wide open. Some boos rain down at the Garden as it's the former Bruin who ties the game. GOAL: Capitals 1, Bruins 1.

2:28: Steal right in the slot. Cameron Hughes shoots, but he's stopped point-blank.

2:27: Vitek Vanecek now playing goal for Washington.

2:23: Megna is out of the box. No goals, but the shots continue to tick up. B's have a 22-9 advantage in that category with 7:55 to play in the second.

Also, Lauko has earned the bump up to Krejci's line. As I've said more than once, he's looked real good.

2:22: Bruins just set it up like they were on the power play, not killing. Copley saves the one-timer from the right circle.

2:20: Jayson Megna called for holding. Another Bruins power play.

2:17: Nothing doing. B's kill the penalty.

2:13: B's have absolutely dominated the period so far. Shots 5-0, including a couple from BC's own Ryan Fitzgerald who's having a solid game on this top line.

We'll see the B's on a penalty kill for the first time as well as Senyshyn is called for a trip at 6:09.

2:09: The first great chance of the period goes to Marcel Noebels, who went in on a breakaway off Lauko's pass and tried to sneak the puck past Copley and the left post.

2:05: The second period is underway.

1:55: Looking at some stats from the first period since NHL.com stats are not updating to regular-season capabilities, the B's were 16-13 in the face-off circle with Krejci going 5-2.

In addition to the goal, two hits and the aforementioned blocked shot for Lauko. That's what they call active, folks.

1:47: That's the end of the first period. It's 1-0, and the B's have a 14-7 shots advantage.

1:45: Jayson Megna gets a break, and McIntyre stops it.

1:44: Power play time. Former Bruin Brett Connolly goes to the box for tripping at 17:54. It's the top line guys on the man-up unit for Boston.

1:41: Lauko follows up a blocked shot and beats a screened Copley at the 17:01 mark. Axel Andersson gets the assist. GOAL: Bruins 1, Capitals 0.

1:40: Brian Pinho wins a draw for the Caps. It's only the preseason, but it's his first pro game. That has to be pretty cool for the North Andover native and former Providence Friar.

1:35: Anton Blidh just couldn't squeeze the puck home after getting the puck from an errant pass. B's have four of the last five shots.

1:33: Emil Johansson cuts hard to the net, but he's stopped by Copley.

1:27: We're just past the halfway mark of the first period. Scoreless. Shots 8-5 B's.

1:26: Lauko and Marcel Noebels connect for a chance that's sent out of play after Copley stops Karson Kuhlman's backhander.

1:22: McIntyre makes another strong save, denying a one-touch chance in transition.

1:18: Jakub Lauko with a great block to deny a chance in the left circle. That will leave a mark in more ways than one, if you know what I mean.

1:15: After Copley makes a save, we have a fight. Zach Senyshyn and Tyler Lewington tangle briefly, now head to their respective penalty boxes.

1:12: The top line's already looking good. Caps goalie Phoenix Copley makes a great save on David Krejci's backhander just after he deked and set up Ryan Fitzgerald for a chance. The B's now have a 4-1 shot edge with 15:26 left in the first.

1:09: Washington gets the first shot on goal of the game, but Zane McIntyre is equal to the task.

1:08 p.m.: David Krejci wins the draw, and we're underway at the Garden.
