Jabari Bird was arrested by Boston Police on Friday night and is facing a number of charges in what appears to be a domestic violence incident.

The 24-year-old guard is being evaluated and guarded at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, according to a report from WBZ-TV and is facing a number of serious charges including kidnapping and strangulation that Boston Police's domestic unit is now investigating. The alleged victim is being treated at another local hospital, according to police.

The Celtics organization released a statement overnight on Bird's arrest, stating: "We are aware of the incident involving Jabari Bird and are taking it very seriously. We are actively gathering information and will reserve further comment at this time."

Bird has spent much of the past few weeks training at the Celtics practice facility in Brighton in preparation for the season and has an apartment in the area. The 2017 second round pick signed a two-year contract with the Celtics in July, with the first year of the deal being fully guaranteed.

BSJ Analysis:

If these allegations are true, I would be shocked if Bird is not gone from the Celtics roster by the time the season begins.

The team is fully responsible for his $1.35 million salary for the 2018-19 season. His $1.55 million salary is not guaranteed for the 2019-20 season. If they waive him, they will have to absorb that salary for this season in the tax, assuming they don't reduce the payroll during the season via trade. The team could try to trade Bird as well (to reduce the tax penalties) but the potential for that after this incident seems highly unlikely.
