NBA free agency was turned upside down on Monday night and the Celtics were almost at the center of it all.
Ultimately, DeMarcus Cousins elected to sign a one-year deal for the taxpayer mid-level exception ($5.4 million) with the Golden State Warriors, but Chris Haynes of ESPN.com reports that the Celtics were the other team Cousins was considering before ultimately deciding on Golden State.
The Celtics had the full mid-level exception ($8.5 million) to offer Cousins. The veteran center is coming off a torn Achilles injury that he suffered last season and is expected to miss several months of the 2018-19 season. His signing gives the Warriors All-Star experience at every position on the floor.
More analysis to come on the impact of the Cousins move for the league, Pelicans and potential targets for the Celtics down the road...
