Charlie McAvoy was named to the NHL's All-Rookie team – the first Bruins selection since Torey Krug was named to the team in 2013-14.
McAvoy joined the Bruins two years ago when he left Boston University and joined the Bruins in the playoffs. He followed that with his first full season and led all first-year defensemen in time on ice (1,395:17, 22:09 per game). The 20-year-old blue-liner had seven goals and 25 assists, the sixth-most points by a rookie Bruins defenseman.
Nashville Predators goalie Juuse Saros, Devils defenseman Will Butcher, Islanders forward Mathew Barzal, Canucks forward Brock Boeser, and Coyotes forward Clayton Keller rounded out the team. Keller and McAvoy were teammates at Boston University.
The Bruins came up short at the NHL Awards. Patrice Bergeron was nominated for a seventh consecutive Selke Trophy, but the Kings' Anze Kopitar won the award for the league's best defensive forward. Coach Bruce Cassidy finished second to Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant – an impressive feat for Cassidy in his first full season as the Bruins coach.
Now that the Bruins wrapped up in Vegas it's off to Dallas for the NHL Entry Draft. The Bruins currently are slated to pick No. 57 in second round and are without a first-round pick after trading it to the Rangers for Rick Nash.
