BSJ Daily Briefing 06.06.18: Patriots, Red Sox don't skip a beat ... Revs fall on faces

Good morning!

A few random thoughts while I try to avoid figuring out whether or not Tom Brady and Bill Belichick interacted on Tuesday (I don't care)...

• All in all, save Kenny Britt's injury, Tuesday was a good day for the Patriots. It felt as though Brady and Rob Gronkowski being back on the field just made everyone raise their level of play. Thought things functioned well, the quarterbacks looked much sharper with No. 12 back, and all was good in Patriotsland.


• Don't even listen to Tony Mazz with all his doom-and-gloom with the on-field stuff. We're months away from the Patriots settling on anything. Right now, they're just teaching and getting a look.


• Now, does 12 and 87 being on the field, and the Patriots looking good, mean all is well with the Patriots? Not necessarily. This is a mandatory minicamp. The players have to be there or risk a fine — and worse in terms of a public flogging — if they don't show. There's a lot of unsettled business between Brady and Belichick (contract, Alex Guerrero's access, etc.), so we'll just have to see how that hashes out.


• Still find it interesting the Patriots are going with rookies at CB behind Stephon Gilmore in camp instead of, say, Jason McCourty and Eric Rowe, but like said last week, I was told it's mostly about Belichick knowing what he already has in some players, and getting data on new ones.


• Red Sox won again last night which is great, but this is a pretty borderline unwatchable portion of the schedule in terms of opponents. Who am I supposed to be intrigued with, 86-year-old Victor Martinez or Nick Castellanos?


• If you're a Revs supporter, how can you not be embarrassed by last night's loss to Louisville of the USL? It's like the Celtics losing to the Red Claws ... or at least it's supposed to be something like that.


• Congrats to Watertown native and former BU player Albie O'Connell for being named the next bench boss of the Terriers. Good to have some deep roots in that spot.
