When it comes to sixth-round picks sticking in the NFL, Mark Richt knows the odds. But he’s had a chance to coach Braxton Berrios the last two seasons at the University of Miami, and wants to make sure people know something about the receiver/returner.
“I wouldn’t bet against him,” Richt said of Berrios.
What makes Berrios — a 5-foot-9, 184-pounder who was taken with the 210th overall pick by the Patriots last month out of the University of Miami — so special? Let Richt explain.
“The guy has maximized every inch that God gave him. Every fiber of muscle, and all of his brain power,” explained Richt. “He produced for us in a way I could have never dreamed he could have. He’s fast, agile, and a great route runner with good ball skills.”
Berrios had 100 catches for 1,175 yards and 14 touchdowns in his four years at Miami, including a team-leading 55 catches last season with the Hurricanes. A majority of his production came out of the slot.
