Welcome to first and 10, a roundup of all the (mostly) Patriots-related news you need to start your day:

Going to jump right into the links this morning because it's Friday and we've all got places to go.

1. Greg gave a scouting report on the new guy, Jordan Matthews, and what he might bring to the table. Interesting guy who is another in a group of "buy-low" individuals who, if he stays healthy, can bring some depth to a key position. Here's a video of some of his highlights from the 2015 and 2016 seasons when he was healthy in Philly.

2. Everyone had a good laugh with the Jordan Richards comparison to Justin Reid, and I understand any reticence to go back to the well when it comes to Stanford safeties. But trust me -- people I've talked to say this young man is the real deal. Check out my story on Reid here.

3. Brandin Cooks met the media in Los Angeles, and had nothing but positive words about his experience in New England. He said Bill Belichick called him shortly before the trade went down. "I have a ton of respect for him," Cooks said of the Patriots coach, "and we have a ton of respect for each other." There's more on his press conference here. And you can watch it here.

4. The Rams were really fired up about the acquisition of Cooks.

5. We've already been down this road, but consider this your semi-regular reminder that James Harrison wants to keep playing.

6. Tom E. Curran talks about the tough calls when it comes to making up his mind on this year's potential Patriots Hall of Famers.

7. Mike Reiss gives his take on the Patriots' signing of Matthews.

8. Kony Ealy, who had stops in New England and North Jersey last year, is headed to Dallas.

9. Do the Patriots "have an affinity" for Baker Mayfield? Apparently, some teams believe they do.

10. Your official NFL draft countdown clock.
