BSJ Daily Briefing 04.05.18: Happy Sox opening day! taken at BSJ Headquarters (Regular Features)

Good morning!

A few random thoughts while people bundle up for the Sox home opener like they're going to Gillette in December...

  • So the Sox truly open their season today, because we all know you can't really open a season playing in the Tropicana Dome.

  • It's certainly interesting that David Price gets the ball today, considering all that went down last season. I mean, the last time Fenway saw Price, it wanted to give him a hug and he, basically, said, "Nah, I'm good." Here's hoping Price is a little more willing to enjoy himself this year.

  • Hopefully, the change of scenery will do some good for J.D. Martinez (.200), Andrew Benintendi (.158) and Jackie Bradley Jr. (.118).

  • Probably a good thing for the Celtics that any dreams of the top seed are now over after the loss to the Raptors. They can spend the final games getting players rested and healthy.

  • Now the scoreboard watching is on. Who do you want in the first round: Miami, Washington or Milwaukee?

  • Will be interesting to see how the Bruins respond tonight vs. the Panthers. After a big dud in Tampa and a couple subpar (for them) games, this is normally where Bruce Cassidy pushes the right buttons like he has for the past year. It's been uncanny how he gets his teams to respond.

  • Liked the Patriots signing TE Troy Niklas. Not the most dynamic pass catcher, but a solid blocker and all-around player. Gives them some options to split out Rob Gronkowski. And I'd be a little nervous about my spot if I were Dwayne Allen. But I still think he's better than he showed for the balance of last season.

And away we go....
