Update: Celtics outbid for Sean Kilpatrick, won't reportedly sign him

UPDATE: The Celtics will still be looking for help on the free agent market after their expected signing of Sean Kilpatrick hit a snag on Saturday afternoon. Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald reports the shooting guard was offered more money by another team (the C's can only offer the league minimum) and thus they won't be bringing aboard the shooting guard.

The Celtics will be granted a hardship exception by the NBA in the wake of Kyrie Irving's knee procedure on Saturday and the team is expected to sign free agent guard Sean Kilpatrick with the additional spot on the roster, according to a report from Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald. He is expected to sign a 10-day contract with Boston as soon as Sunday.

Kilpatrick, 28, has played for three different teams during the 2017-18 regular season, most recently for the Los Angeles Clippers on a 10-day contract that expired this past week. He's been in the midst of a down season from an efficiency standpoint, but the 6-foot-4 shooting guard is one of the most proven scorers available on the free agent market. He's averaged 10.0 points per game over his career in just 19 minutes per game and has hit the 13 ppg mark for the past two seasons with the Brooklyn Nets.
