First and 10: After a wild weekend, getting caught up on free agency taken at BSJ Headquarters (Patriots)

(Kim Klement/USA TODAY Sports)

Welcome to first and 10, a roundup of all the (mostly) Patriots-related news you need to start your day:

A few quick notes while we ponder what happened the last time New England dealt for a speedy receiver who wore No. 84 and had a history with the Raiders and Vikings...

--You spend the weeks leading up to free agency scouring the list of available players, trying to figure out how they'd match with New England and wondering if they'd fit under the cap. Then, the Patriots go out and make as many trades as free-agent pickups in the first few days. OK then.

--Starting to get a sense that Cam Fleming and LaAdrian Waddle are going to take some time making up their minds when it comes to a final decision. With the tackle market what it is, it's the smart move on their part.

--The first offseason conference call of the year is later today -- we're going to talk with Danny Shelton (a.k.a. Feast Mode) at noon. Look for some takeaways shortly after that.

--So as of Monday morning, here’s a look at the Patriots’ official offseason tote board:

--Pro Day slate for Monday is an interesting one if for no other reason than Toledo quarterback Logan Woodside will get to show his stuff. There are some folks who believe Woodside is a legit mid- to late-round possibility for the Patriots. Here are the rest of the notables who are holding workouts Monday: Bowling Green, Delaware, Fresno State, N.C. State, Syracuse, Temple and Tennessee.

Now, on to the links…

1. Cordarrelle Patterson projects to a part-time offensive option, but he could also be a special-teams game-changer for the Patriots. He's also a bit of a gadgety-guy -- if he makes the roster, I'll be really interested to see how Josh McDaniels uses him.

2. My weekend notebook looked at a bunch of stuff, including what could be a big year for Joe Thuney, a tremendous opportunity on the horizon for Cyrus Jones, Adrian Clayborn’s already interesting history with New England, why the 2018 Patriots could pull off something professional football hasn’t seen since 1926 … and more.

3. Analysis: Jeremy Hill reminds me a little of Antowain Smith. Let me tell you why here.

4. Analysis: Adrian Clayborn brings strength and speed to the Patriots’ pass rush.

5. Miguel offered a comprehensive cap breakdown at the end of the weekend.

6. He also had an answer to the intriguing question: If Tom Brady’s so cheap vs. other QBs, why do the Patriots have so little cap space?

7. Greg delivered an epic Q&A on Friday.

8. Brady was on "Wait, Wait ... Don't Tell Me" this weekend. Worth a listen -- funny stuff.

Extra Point (ICYMI):

10 years! Wow, God had crazy plans for a small little kid from North Platte, NE! It’s been a wild ride and feel so blessed He allowed me to do what I loved for so long. But now it’s time to say goodbye to the game I love. First, I want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Without Him my career wouldn’t have been possible. He blessed me with the gifts and He paved the way. All I had to do was follow His plans for my life, and His plans were crazy awesome! Next, I want to thank my wife who has been by my side since freshman year of high school. She has been a rock through all the ups and downs. Sis, Willy, Mae Mae, and Hopie your daddy is going to be home a ton more and I can’t wait! Thanks to my Dad and Mom for always supporting me and showing me that God is first, then everything else will fall into place. Ben, Joel, and Anna thanks for preparing me for the NFL in our backyard games growing up. The dreaded in-laws Steve and Suzie for always being there for me. Chris Gittings (agent) you’re the best and thankful your my brother/uncle! Thank you Jets, Patriots, Chargers, and Ravens! Thanks to all my head coaches (Bob Zohner, Brad Smith, Bill O’Boyle, Eric Mangini, Rex Ryan, Bill Belichick, Mike McCoy, and John Harbaugh) who believed in me! To my rbs coaches (coach skiles, coach reiners, Jimmy Raye, A Lynn, Ivan, Ollie, Ridge, and Thomas) thanks for putting up with me. Thanks to all my teammates from high school till now. Without you guys I never would’ve become who I was as a player. To all my olinemen, you guys deserve the credit for anything that I received credit for. I thank you for helping make my career. To all the trainers, team docs, strength coaches, chiropractors, massage therapists, physical therapists, body gurus thanks for making sure I was on the field. To all the people who made my life easier at the facility (ops, pr, equipment staff, cafe workers, custodians) thanks and your work doesn’t go unnoticed. And how could i forget all my fans?! You’re the best and have always felt the love and support! I’m sure I’ve forgotten a few but know that I’m thankful for everything everyone has done on my journey.
