Here's a quick recap of the Patriots' transactions from Friday and Saturday and their impact on their salary cap.
1) Tom Brady's $14 million salary became fully guaranteed on Friday. This does not change his 2018 cap number of $22 million. It just means that there will be very little cap savings if the franchise decided to release him.
2) James Develin received a $100,000 roster bonus on Friday. This does not change his 2018 cap number of $1.475 million. This just means that if the Patriots trade or release him anytime this season, the $100,000 roster bonus will then be included on their salary cap as dead money.
3) Signed Jeremy Hill to an one-year deal, according to the Boston Globe's Jim McBride. My guess is that since no numbers were announced, Hill's 2018 cap number will be in the range of $900,000 to $1,400,000. I need more details besides the length of his contract before updating my salary cap space number, like his salary, signing bonus amount (if any), offseason workout bonus amount (if any), roster bonus amount (if any) and LTBE incentive amount (if any).
4) Signed Matt Tobin to an one-year deal according to ESPN's Mike Reiss. My guess is that since no numbers were announced that Matt Tobin's 2018 cap number will be in the range of $900,000 to $1,400,000 if he did not sign a minimum salary benefit deal -- that would make his 2018 cap number $720,000. Like Hill, I need more details besides the length of his contract before updating my salary cap space number. (For what it's worth, I consider it more likely that Tobin to have signed a MSB deal than Hill.)
5) Signed Adrian Clayborn to an two-year deal, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. My guess is since this report contained the words "with a max value of $12.5 million," the deal contains incentives. Like the others, I need more details besides the length of his contract before updating my salary cap space number.
