IN-GAME OBSERVATIONS:
- The good news for Rick Porcello in the first? Three groundouts, evidence that his sinker is in mid-season form. The bad? He also gave up two doubles, leading to a run, another example of Porcello running into first-inning troubles.
- Two-run double to left-center by Hanley Ramirez, who has made a project of trying to hit the ball up the middle this spring.
- Ramirez's double is closely followed by one from J.D. Martinez, who also took the ball up the middle.
- Bizarre double play to close out the top half of the second. With the bases loaded and one out, catcher Blake Swihart tripped over his own helmet in front of the plate while pursuing a pop-up, but with the infield fly rule in effect, the batter (Byron Buxton). Porcello picked up the ball and fired to second for the second out, and third of the inning. But before the out was recorded at second, Erick Aybar raced home and scored, giving the Twins a run.
- Porcello has pitched far better since the second innings, and has been getting more swings-and-misses as the game progresses.

- LHP Eduardo Rodriguez has been moved to a five-day schedule. He'll have a start in a camp game early next week.
- RHP Steven Wright will throw three innings of live batting practice Saturday.
- RHP Austin Maddox will throw a side session Saturday.
- LHP Drew Pomeranz will throw a camp game against minor leaguers for two innings on Sunday.
- Alex Cora wants to get OF Mookie Betts some playing time in center field before the end of spring training. Betts could shift to center field on the road with J.D. Martinez playing occasionally in right field.
