- In a sloppy second inning, two Red Sox baserunners were picked off in the second inning - Christian Vazquez was caught off second and Sam Travis was picked off at first.
- Chris Sale is wasting no time showing off his premium fastball in his first Grapefruit League start. In the first inning, he was between 95-97 mph.
- Aneury Tavarez, an outfielder with some promise, just hammered a two-run homer to right on a 1-and-1 pitch from Dan Straily.
- The Marlins managed a run off Sale in the fourth on a Derek Dietrich leadoff double, a flyout by Starlin Castro and a sacrifice fly from Jusitn Bour.
- Sale's pitching line: four innings pitches, two hits allowed, one earned run with five strikeouts.
- Sam Travis, who has quietly had a strong spring, contributed a two-run, opposite-field homer.

MARLINS
- Both Drew Pomeranz (flexor strain) and Austin Maddox (shoulder inflammation) played catch Friday morning back in Fort Myers. Maddox is set to get back on a mound in upcoming days and return to games next week. Pomeranz is proceeding at a somewhat slower pace but remains pain-free.
- Eduardo Nunez reported no issues the day after making his Grapefruit League debut Thursday. He's set to play second base on Saturday and DH Sunday, and was also planning on getting some at-bats in a camp game Friday.
- Craig Kimbrel remains in Boston as his infant daughter recovers from a second heart procedure. Kimbrel threw a bullpen on Wednesday to stay sharp, but there's no scheduled return date to Florida yet.
