Bruins' David Backes suspended three games for hit vs. Detroit's Nielsen taken at BSJ Headquarters (Bruins)

Bruins forward David Backes has been suspended for three games for his hit on Detroit Red Wings forward Frans Nielsen during Boston's 6-5 overtime win Tuesday night at TD Garden. Backes will forfeit $96,774.18 in salary with the money going to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at 19:44 of the first period. Backes was assessed a minor penalty for roughing.
