WHEN: 6:05 p.m.
WHERE: Hammond Stadium
TV: NESNplus
BOX SCORE: MLB.com

STARTING PITCHERS: RHP Chandler Shepherd vs RHP Jose Berrios

IN-GAME OBSERVATIONS:

  • Hanley Ramirez had looked relatively smooth at first the other day, but he played an in-between hop on a ball hit by Byron Buxton.  He wasn't charged with an error, but the miscue allowed Buxton to reach in the bottom of the third.

  • Twice in that same inning, LHP Roenis Elias was charged with a balk. The first time, he allowed Jordan Pacheco to move from first to second. The second time, Pacheco scored from third.

  • Ramirez hooked a double down the left field line to open the fourth, showing an ability to pull the ball that Ramirez didn't often have last season because of a weakened left shoulder.

  • A second error by the Twins in the infield resulted in Ramirez scoring from third when Pacheco couldn't handle the ball on a grounder to third by Sam Travis.

  • Ivan De Jesus Jr's double down the right field line scored Travis with the Red Sox' second run.

  • Teddy Stankiewicz is pitching the fifth inning. Stankiewicz was taken in the second-round in the 2013, after the Red Sox used their first-r0und pick on Trey Ball, with the seventh pick overall. To date, neither has progressed above Double A.  Not the scouting department's finest hour, obviously.

  • De Jesus made a fine leaping grab of a line drive by Ryan LaMarre with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, saving a run.

  • Opposite-field double by Sam Travis scores Kyri Washington with the tie-breaking run in the top of the ninth.
