Red Sox reportedly agree to five-year deal with J.D. Martinez

The staring contest is over. J.D. Martinez will be joining the Red Sox in Fort Myers shortly after agreeing to a five-year deal with the team on Monday. The news was first reported by Pedro Gomez of ESPN.com.

Jon Morosi of Fox Sports indicates that the deal will be worth $110 million over five years with $50 million due to Martinez over the first two years of the contract. The 30-year-old outfielder will also reportedly have an opt out clause following year two of the deal.

Martinez finished third in the majors with a career-high 45 home runs for the Tigers and Diamondbacks during the 2017 season in just 119 games.
