Good morning!
Random thoughts while I wonder if the Boston media scene has hit the bottom yet (I'm guessing no).
In case you missed it:
- Friday started with the Boston Herald trumpeting a scoop by Ron Borges that Tom Brady was going sit out offseason practices unless he got paid like Jimmy Garoppolo did.
- About this time Friday, WEEI revealed that a listener, who is a big fan of host Kirk Minihane, duped (not very cleverly) Borges into believing he was Brady agent Don Yee.
- Minihane couldn't contain how happy he was to have possibly ended the career of Borges, mostly because Borges questioned whether Minihane knew where Gillette Stadium was. Minihane was literally singing and dancing on the air about it.
- Herald took down and apologized for the story, and then suspended Borges.
- WEEI host Christian Fauria, later in the day, read the texts from fake Yee in an Asian accent.
- Fauria was suspended for a week.
- This is on top of Michael Felger being suspended by NBCSportsBoston in November, the Boston Globe's whole Jim O'Sullivan episode in December, and the Alex Reimer-Tom Brady disaster on WEEI (the station is having a great run), which was covered like Watergate by some in the local media.
And away we go...
