ST. PAUL — According to a league source there is a “sense of optimism” defensive lineman Deatrich Wise will be cleared to play between now and Sunday’s Super Bowl.
The rookie out of Arkansas sustained a concussion in the AFC title game against the Jaguars, but has since returned to practice. While he still has at least one more hurdle to climb before he’s OK to play, it certainly sounds like he’s close to being able to go against the Eagles. The 6-foot-5, 271-pound rookie, who has five sacks this season, has sustained a pair of head injuries this season — he went down with a similar issue in the preseason.
As for Rob Gronkowski, he wasn’t at opening night Monday at the Xcel Energy Center, but he was seen at the rally in Foxborough on Monday morning, as well as getting off the plane in Minnesota on Monday afternoon. The tight end also posted a message to Instagram that sounded a positive note about his health, saying “locked in, ready to roll.”
