RED SOX

On the day Alex Cora was hired as Red Sox manager in November, he presented the team with a flag from his native Puerto Rico and thanked the Sox for their support.

Today, that support is being mobilized. Early Tuesday morning, Cora, along with team president Sam Kennedy, members of the organization, Rick Porcello and Boston mayor Marty Walsh left on a flight for Puerto Rico to help deliver ten tons of supplies to the commonwealth, which is still struggling to recover from a series of storms which struck last fall.

Cora has made no secret of his love and devotion to Puerto Rico. He was treated as a hero on the island after the Astros won the World Series and days later, Cora was introduced as the 46th manager in Red Sox history.

It's nice to see Cora utilizing his status as native son to organize much-needed relief for Puerto Rico, which is still without power and clean drinking water in many areas.

Good for Cora, and good for the Red Sox for contributing to the humanitarian effort.

TAKE I MAY REGRET IN A MONTH:

I believe that Major League Baseball -- and the Cleveland Indians -- did the right thing by deciding to eliminate the Chief Wahoo logo from their uniforms, beginning in 2019. The logo, which dates back better than 70 years, was offensive to many and clearly seemed outmoded.

But I wish both parties had made the decision to eliminate the logo for this season. Instead, the Indians will continue to sell merchandise featuring the logo. That smacks of having it both ways: eliminating the logo to silence critics, but using this last season to cash in on it at the souvenir stand.
