The Boston Bruins will be without Brad Marchand and Torey Krug for Wednesday's game against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center, according to coach Bruce Cassidy. Both players are sidelined with upper-body injuries but participated in Tuesday's practice at Warrior Ice Arena, while wearing red no-contact sweaters.
"It would be nice to be back in the lineup and be part of the team again, but it'll come," Marchand said. "I can't really discuss what's been going on, but I'm feeling a little better and I keep progressing."
Even though the team won't disclose Marchand's ailment, it's likely he's still dealing with a concussion that has kept him out five of the last seven games.
Ryan Spooner (groin) is close to returning.
"We're going to have a conversation right now," Cassidy said. "The plan for him was to get through a practice of contact and we'll make a decision. He's a lot closer."
Anders Bjork (upper body) did not skate and is out until at least next week, according to Cassidy.
Cassidy hasn't made a decision yet on his starting goalie against the Devils. The coach likes to have his goalie schedule set a week in advance, but he admits it's now on a game-to-game basis because of Anton Khudobin's recent success.
"A little bit more (game-to-game) because obviously the other night it would have been Tuukka in San Jose, but we went with Dobby," Cassidy said. "At the end of the day we still want to watch the starts, that's the more important thing when you schedule it. Are they getting their good rest? How many starts are they going to end up with? So, if Tuukka gets a few off now, sometimes that happens with injuries, then maybe he makes them up later. It's a crystal ball kind of thing. That's the best we can do with that."
