For the Patriots on Sunday, everything changed in a matter of 59 seconds of game action.
With 44 seconds left in the first half and New England holding a 14-0 lead, the Raiders were driving, nearing the Patriots’ end zone with their best and most efficient offensive series of the afternoon. A quick pass from quarterback Derek Carr to wide receiver Seth Roberts got Oakland down to the New England 3-yard line.
That was the beginning of the end for the Raiders.
Instead of Roberts tucking the ball away, he had it out and away from his body as he tried to fight for more yards. Patriots defensive back Jonathan Jones spun Roberts around, linebacker Marquis Flowers punched the ball out and safety Patrick Chung recovered with 33 seconds left in the second quarter.
