There were two updates on Patriots linebackers Tuesday afternoon, as Dont’a Hightower was officially placed on injured reserve, while Shea McClellin reportedly suffered a setback in his attempt to return to game action.
Hightower’s move was an expected part of the process after the veteran went down with a season-ending pec injury in the recent win over the Falcons. However, the news on McClellin came as a bit of a surprise, as he had started practicing again after beginning the regular season on IR because of an undisclosed injury. It was believed that McClellin would be able to step in and provide some depth at a position that suffered a blow with the injury to Hightower.
Pats LB Shea McClellin isn't expected to return off IR anytime soon, sources say. Was eligible to come back this week. Won't happen.
