The Bruins' Matt Beleskey has been a healthy scratch in four of the last five games. He's watched as younger, less-experienced players are getting opportunities to play while he's watching from the press box.
Now, with so many injuries, coach Bruce Cassidy has decided to insert Beleskey back into the lineup against the Vegas Golden Knights Thursday night at TD Garden. Cassidy has had many conversations with Beleskey about what he needs to add to the mix.
"We need more energy," Cassidy said. "He does have size, especially with (David) Backes out, (Beleskey) can add a dimension of abrasiveness that we miss."
Beleskey needs to be solid defensively and play a low-risk game, according to Cassidy. If the veteran forward, who struggled last season to score and is going through something similar this season, can add some offense it would be a bonus.
"I think he's in a good frame of mind, for the most part," Cassidy said. "He's just waiting for his opportunity and when he gets it, it's a matter of taking advantage of it. Right now there's lots of opportunities with all the bodies out."
